Mt. Hororyuu Chapter 3: The First Human, Dwarf Race

Sahela, who shot out from the mountainside like a bullet, dropped the dragons swarming around the mountain onto the ground in a blink of an eye.

Sahela was so fast, that the friction between her and the air caused her to ignite into a fireball.

Sahela was so strong, that one swing of the extraordinary hammer Mjölnir struck 10,000 dragons to the earth, annihilating them.

She was like a living fireball that rushed about as she pleased.

Sahela perfectly counterattacked against the tsunami of dragons that surged forward.

Seven nights came and seven nights pa.s.sed, and for the first time in this world the skies were not dyed crimson from meteorites nor magma, turning them brighter than daytime despite it being nighttime.

I repeatedly advised the dragons to surrender.

The dragons did not listen to me, and continued to attack until the very last one was left.

The dragons raid that did not weaken once finally ended on the morning of the seventh day.

When the last one fell to the ground, Sahela gazed sadly at the mountainside that had been cooked until turning into magma, and landed halfway up the mountain.

Sahela is small. Compared to humans, she was about the height of a girl attending elementary school. Her facial features also appeared young.

The small crimson-haired war G.o.ddess displayed a face filled with anxiousness and fear as she timidly spoke to me.

"Milord, I have defeated the dragons as ordered."

(Ahh. Thanks, you really helped.)

"Milord, I have a request."

(What is it?)

"Please do not kill Sahela. Please, leave me at your side. I am fine with just being by your side, I'll do anything, so please."

Surprise stabbed at me and I was taken aback.

When I looked carefully, it was apparent that Sahela's tiny body was contracted to be even smaller than it already was as it quivered.

Even though she had the power to erase me and turn me into an empty plot of land with a single blow of Mjölnir, she was frightened that I would abandon and kill her.

(There's no way I would kill her. Why would she think I'd do that?)

When I asked that, Sahela appeared slightly relieved as she hesitantly answered.

"Milord created the dragons. But, you destroyed the dragons. Milord created Sahela. But……but-"

(No, it's fine. Sorry, it's my bad, so you don't have to speak any further. I was in the wrong, you must've been scared.)

Seeing Sahela words choking up, I felt my chest become choked up.

Ever since I became a mountain, I lamented over the fact that I did not have arms several tens of thousands of times, but there had never been a time that I lamented over that fact more than now.

How good would it be if I could hug her and tell her it would be alright?

(It's alright. It's alright. I swear, no matter what happens, I will not kill Sahela.)

I swore from the bottom of my heart.

Never again would I repeat the same mistake.

I would probably create more lives in the future as well. However, never again would I destroy the very creatures that I created.

I carved the fact that I had destroyed the dragons deep within me as a warning.

Though the battle had ended, the aftermath was incredible. The earth that had been fused together by the super high heat was gouged out by the shockwaves, and an innumerable amount of enormous dragon corpses filled up the large hole to the point that just burying them created a mountain of its own. The dragon corpses that surrounded me created a great mountain range when piled up. This was the result of all of the dragons from the splendor of an entire era that spread all across the world gathering in a single location.

Since the dragons were beings whose crimson crystal core was made from flames and magma, even if we left them, they would not rot. However, though they had become my enemies, they were still my own creations. There was no way I could just leave them lying around in the open. In order to bury the dragons, I created beings of the same race as Sahela. While being far weaker than Sahela, they were little people that possessed the same nature as her.

In other words, they were st.u.r.dy and strong enough against heat to be capable of surviving in this scorching hot world, and were little people who would love the mountain.

I named them the [Dwarf] race.

The dwarves carried cooled down lava that was a distance from the battlefield, broke it down into dirt and sand, and diligently buried the mountain of dragon corpses.

Though the dwarves worked a.s.siduously, it would take many, many more months before they would be to hide all of the dragon corpses under the dirt. The dragons had absorbed the heat from Earth that had been like a boiling hot h.e.l.l initially, thus cooling it down. As a result, by the time the burial had been completed, the red in the sky had disappeared, and the lava which was steadily cooling grew a deep black which started to spread.

There were volcanoes all over the place vigorously erupting, and the smoke blurred the sky overhead, producing clouds, and over the course of two thousand years, it rained continuously.

The dwarves dug a hole inside my body and lived there.

The dwarves loved mountains. Because I made them that way. They instinctively loved all mountains – myself in particular – and wanted to live in mountains. Rather than the outside world that was full of smoke and rocks, the depths of the inside of the mountain appeared to be far more comfortable to live in.

While it wasn't as much as the dragons, the dwarves also possessed a disposition that resembled my own, in that they were able to absorb heat and eat rocks to survive. However, they were unable to store excess energy in their bodies in the form of a crystal like the dragons were. One of the theories for the reason the dragons' rampaged was that because of the crystal, they were capable of storing an infinite amount of power to become stronger. That drew them into becoming arrogant. After reflecting on that, I would not fall into that hole again.

As conversational partners, they were far better than the dragons. Like the first dwarf, Sahela, everyone was more humble, and while they did not speak much, they thought a lot more before speaking. They had the ability to learn, and whittled down rocks to make various handicrafts and show me. There were rocks everywhere, so they did not have any trouble in finding materials. It could be said that there was no better tool for killing time.

I had also handled the problem with population growth.

Though Sahela had eternal youth and longevity, the other dwarves were set to have a lifespan of around 500 years. I learned from experience with the dragons that beings with eternal youth end up multiplying too much. It was fine if I just had one person stay next to me forever.

Not only did I handle the lifespan, but I also adjusted the way in which they could produce children. The dwarves could produce children even if they left my mountain. They were free existences that could go anywhere. However, if they did not eat a fixed amount of gold, then they could not create a child.

Since the amount of gold deposits on Earth was limited, the population of dwarves would inevitably peak. There would never be a situation in which the population would explode to unmanageable levels.

As she was incomparably powerful even amongst the dwarves, and was the first one to be born, in addition to possessing the magic hammer Mjölnir which could not be melted, broken, or stolen, and was constantly next to me (near my crystal core), Sahela was special amongst the dwarves, and naturally became their race's queen.

If Sahela was the Queen, then I received treatment similar to that of a G.o.d's. In reality, I had created the dwarves, so they weren't wrong to do so.

But, even though I was a G.o.d, it unexpectedly did not mean that they distanced themselves from me.

The dwarves were [mountain supporters].

Like how fans would become excited at their idol's every move, enjoying it, and respecting them, the dwarves also pampered me. They became greatly joyous just from me talking to them. I was also happy at being so adored.

In order to distinguish me from other mountains, they named me [Mt. Hororyuu]. Though Sahela called me "milord", to the great majority of the dwarves, it seemed that they were too awed to call me that.

Well, no matter what they called me, a mountain was a mountain, and I was me.

As the generations of dwarves came and went, the two thousand year long rainfall ended, and the water that evaporated once again returned to the earth.

The Earth was red for a long period of time. Now, once again, the ocean was born, and Earth became blue.

Ocean————the ocean mother. I created the second living race.
