When I first set out on my mission to become the wolf slayer, I thought it wouldn't be too difficult to find a wolf. But nothing is ever that easy for an honest and hardworking flower like me. Thanks to some sort of inner biological clock I was able to somehow have a decent vague sense of time. Sort of like how plants are adapted to be able to sense how much time pa.s.ses. Thanks to that I was able to tell that after an hour of searching I came up empty petal.

But eventually, I managed to find a pack of three wolves that seemed to be tracking something. I couldn't tell what that was with my lack of tracking capabilities. But either way, I wasn't willing to attack three alert wolves who are in the middle of the hunt. In fact, I was following them from over twenty feet away because of my unwillingness to attack that many unknown enemies at once.

It seemed it only took a good ten or so minutes for them to find what they were looking for, however. All three wolves stopped and started growling at a large dark grey boulder that looked to be 10 feet in height. This world doesn't have golems, does it? Why else would the wolves be growling at a rock of all things? Best to stay back and watch to see how this plays out….

Soon after the wolves started growling the boulder started to s.h.i.+ft and a deep guttural growl that was felt more than heard emanated from the boulder filling me with an ominous feeling. Instead of backing off like I would have the wolves only became more determined and started snarling and snapping at the boulder. This appeared to have an effect on the large rock as it started to move and then stand to…. Is that a bear!?

What I previously thought was a mere boulder was, in fact, a bear that when it stood on its hind legs rose to a height of over 20 feet. What had appeared to be stone was, in fact, the bears fur which now bristled with anger making it look like some sort of demonic combination of bear and porcupine. The ma.s.sive beasts' small eyes glared at the much smaller wolves in annoyance and it released a much more powerful roar that caused the leaves along my stem to tremble from the force. The wolves now seeing how truly terrifying their opponent really was whimpered in fear obviously regretful of their choice to anger such a monster.

It was far too late for regrets now though. One moment the monster bear was roaring then the next it was in front of the wolves and already crus.h.i.+ng one of the wolf's bodies underneath its paws in an astonis.h.i.+ng display of speed. The wolves yelped and turned to run upon seeing one of their brethren killed before they even had a chance to react. The bear swiped forward with a single paw that reached out 5 feet without stretching out its arm to its full length and sent the wolf flying several dozen feet into a nearby tree.

The wolf's body slammed into a tree with a sickening crunch. Instead of proceeding to kill the other wolf which was running it went back to its former spot and curled up. I was hiding in a bush a bit of distance away from the confrontation and trembling in a mix of awe and fear at the bear's display of power. So much so I didn't do anything other than tremble fearfully as the last surviving wolf sped past me. I may be a daring flower but even I'm not dumb enough to try and kill something near that monster!

After waiting and watching the bear disguised as a boulder stay still for a couple minutes, I decided that it was safe enough to try and leave. Using my stealth skill, I kept as low to the ground as possible and crept away slowly. Once I was sure that I was in the clear I started running as fast as my many roots could take me from the bear zone.

Now that I was sure I'm far enough away from the bear I shall take advantage of the bear's fight to kill the lone wolf. I might never get an opportunity as good as this! A lone scared wolf ripe for the taking! Hue hue hue. Wasteful bear! Letting prey ripe for the taking slip away!

It took a good deal of swinging around in the trees but soon I found the wolf who was currently trembling and whimpering in some bushes. I couldn't blame the poor fella. That bear is scarier than even the time I almost got eaten by a bison monster. Don't worry little wolf. I'll put you out of your misery.

I formed my fire rune and launched three fireb.a.l.l.s towards the wolf succeeding in landing two of three of the attacks singing its fur and skin. The wolf let out a surprised yelp before snarling and looking up above its fangs bared. But then I launched another fireball which slammed into the wolf's snout causing it to flinch back and whimper in pain. With the wolf now in pain and dazed I dropped from my perch and land on the wolf's neck.

My many thin vines then began to reach out and wrap around the canine's snout to restrain it. While my vines busied themselves with that, I opened my petals and buried my thorns into my furry foes neck and started to shred through fur and flesh alike with my chainsaw teeth. The wolf growled and snarled as it shook its head side to side vigorously in a vain attempt at shaking me loose. The grip strength of many vines working in tandem proved to be strong enough to prevent me from being sent flying.

So far, my potshots dazed it and my vines are proving to be very powerful but with how physically superior the wolf was compared to me I was barely hanging on as is. It was time to put the pollinator plan into motion. Pulling myself up the wolfs I blasted several consecutive rounds of numbing pollen up its snout for maximum effect. Right away the wolf started sneezing up a fit while shaking its head trying to remove the pollen. But with each pa.s.sing second its movements became slightly slower.

Seizing the newfound weakness of the wolf my vines slithered into its mouth, up its nose, as well as started to stab into its eyes. I ripped and tore at anywhere my vines could get that. Going so far as to use several vines to start tearing into the inside its ears. All the while the wolf was going ballistic howling in pain and desperately tearing off at any vine its claws could reach. But despite the fierce struggle it soon collapsed dead with numerous wounds littering its face and neck alike.

It was a tough battle and I lost easily a dozen of my vines in the midst of it. But in the end, I am the hunter! And I prey upon the lone and weak! Now to carry on my exploration for prey…
