Miranda was standing next to Reo resisting the a.s.sault of the enemy attack. Clay could see Sergeant Coniver standing at the side, for some reason the enemy left him alone and he remained still looking at the group and how they reacted.
A sudden lunge of vicious jaws snapped at his arm as clay jumped into a roll away from the danger, counting out the figures that were attacking the group he could see six four legged creatures that resembled hyenas running chaos among the group.
Doncaster and Tigul were back to back facing the circling of two of the remaining enemies. Remarkably the first person who came to his help was Sigu, a fearsome aura seemed to come out of her body as Clay realised that she had released her ability, strange eddies of wind could be seen around her clas.h.i.+ng with the enemy in front keeping it at bay.
It was at this moment that Sergeant Coniver made a comment. "Larcenous Coyts never retreat until they recognise a danger so if you want to survive this time you need to show them who's boss otherwise things might be a bit difficult." A smile could be seen on his lips as he looked at the group in amus.e.m.e.nts. Somehow Clay knew this situation was real, they could really die here.
Knowing that his ability was not much use in this situation he could only try to keep an eye out on his squadron and plan to a.s.sist where he could. Larcenous Coyts were a pack animal that existed with an alpha who would command the rest, the detail he had read earlier from his info doc refreshed in his mind at this moment. Keeping his eyes on the enemy in front of them he carefully looked for the alpha in the pack.
However he was not the only one to react, some of the squadron seemed to have realised the danger they were in and soon realised abilities like Sigu. For example, Kayden, he could see a small sharp blade of wind appearing in front of him, though both him and Sigu seemed to have the same element as the basis of their awakening, their abilities were different. The sharp wind blade slashed at the enemy in front of him drawing green blood that spilt on the floor. Still, sensing the blood in the air the pack seemed to attack even more ferociously with a renewed vigour.
Clay could see Tigul turning bigger at this moment as a metallic sheen seemed to cover his body and the attack of a Larcenous Coyt that lunged to bite his arm that was held in a defensive position was met with a 'clank' and the broken tooth of the enemy flying away as it retreated.
Raising his voice Clay could only hope someone could hear him, "we need to the attack the alpha!" Pointing out at the Larcenous Coyt that was cunningly guiding Miranda and Reo to a large boulder behind them, Clay tried to grab the squadron's attention. "We can end it if we kill him!" Charging without paying attention to others and if they would understand what he meant, he urgently tried to rush towards the alpha.
Fortunately he was not the only one who reacted, a sharp sound pierced the air as a projectile shot out from the position Doncaster was standing aimed at the alpha that was still slowly pus.h.i.+ng Miranda and Reo to a dead end. Clay could clearly hear the sound of rock shattering as the projectile missed its target. At the same time Sofi seemed to be focusing on something as she urged her psi energy to explode as shackles captured the alpha from the earth holding it in place. The timing was wrong but the squadron was slowly working together. Seeing an opportunity Miranda seemed to concentrate as one of her hands held her wrist and energy began to condense around her fist.
"BOOM!" It was a sound like thunder, as she charged forwards in a swing that was aimed at the temporary shackled alpha in front of her hitting its jaws. The sound of bones crunching could be heard as well as the sudden s.h.i.+fting of the Larcenous Coyt's head that was at an unnatural angle. Seeing the situation gradually s.h.i.+fting, the pack sensed the danger and quickly changed their directions as the group quickly ran away.
All that was left of the enemy ambush was two corpses that remained in the vicinity of the attack. The dead body of the Larcenous Coyt still lay in front of Kayden's feet, its blood leaking out green and eerie on the floor. While the exploded tissue from the impact of Miranda's attack on the alpha had left a strange scene of a Larcenous Coyt which was missing part of its' head still standing in place. Reo carried Miranda who had instantly collapsed with the outburst of her ability, it was clear that the attack had taken more out of her than it looked. Perhaps her energy storage should have been used up in that one attack.
"I'm not sure if I should congratulate you or scold you guys. Look at the state of your squadron, half of you acted without thinking, not every battle is as simple as this." The tone that crept out from Sergeant Coniver's voice was filled with a slight tone of ridicule.
Perhaps they hadn't handled it as well as they should have but at least they had survived the attack. Clay was wondering what else lay in store for them as he stood there dazed next to the corpse of the alpha. 'Things would only be getting harder...'
