"Where is this girl Henrietta?Come out from your hiding place dad will give you a sweet,just give me the money your mum gave you for the home work exercise book."Mr Anderson tried to plead with the little girl,he was so drank and he kept falling down while looking for Henrietta.Henrietta was just behind the one and only couch in the house,which Rose,Henrietta's mum bought after saving money for a full year to purchase it.She bought the couch to serve as a bed for their only daughter Henrietta and also to be used as a seat for the family of three members.

Henrietta didn't come out of her hiding place,she stayed there for three good hours,when she was sure the dad had fallen a sleep,she got out,helped the dad to remove his shoes,closed the door and went to a shop a cross the road to buy the exercise book for her revision work.Since it was a weekend she was aware the mum was not coming home that day, so she just boiled water and added half spoon of sugar ,she put one cup aside for the dad and took the remeinder,after ward as usual ,she went through her school work ,which the teachers had taught the whole week ,by the time she finished she fell a sleep while studying.

she was waken up very early in the morning by stomach ache due to hunger ,that week she was not able to carry any food home because they were released home earlier due to music festivals and those who partic.i.p.ated left behind and were using the hall near the dumping pit where Henrietta most of the Friday's collected food from, for herself and her father.

The dad was still snoring loudly in bed when Henrietta woke up.She washed her face ,wrote a small note and left behind for the dad and as usual she went to try her lack in one of the nearby hotels for a dish was.h.i.+ng job in exchange for any available meal.When she arrived ,she went to the reception ,when the receptionist saw her ,before even exchanging greetings she drove her out and told her never to appear there again,the hotel was not a charity hotel and they don't hire under age, is all Henrietta received from the receptionist .Tears fall from Henrietta's eyes,she didn't go far from the hotel premise.

She waited outside the hotel, while thinking next course of action a car pa.s.sed her and then was reversed again towards Henrietta,a young man got out and gave Henrietta a card,he told her to give it ,to her guardians and to tell the guardians to look for him using the card."Morning sir me and my entire family we are very hardworking,kindly instead of this card give me something to do in exchange of food,I will complete my task sir."Pleaded Henrietta.The young man gave her 2 dollars and emphasized the need for her to give the card to the guardians,Henrietta was so happy,she thanked the young man and skipped home,with a huge smile on her face.She bought a loaf of bread and sugar from there favorite shop and took the items home.

"Dad I'm home" Henrietta called the father excitedly,while opening the door,the dad looked at her daughter and was ashamed of himself,he knew drinking was not a solution to his problems but was the only option he thought would keep him away from the suicidal thoughts he has been having recently.

Mr Anderson was a very hardworking man,he valued his family a lot.He used to work as a casual worker in one of neighbouring companies,one sad morning when he reported for work as usual,he received weird looks from fellow work mates,before he settled down,was summoned to the CEO's office,Anderson was extremely shocked to learn that some important information was missing from the office and unfortunately,he was the only person who was seen going in and out of the office last,due to the magnitude of the missing report he was sacked and was given a heavy penalty of paying 10 dollars daily for the next five years.

Anderson tried to look for a well paying job,for one full month but all was in vain,Rose now started paying for him at the same time catering for the family.She was was able to do house ch.o.r.es in three neighbouring homesteads.In one of the family she was supposed to work night s.h.i.+ft from Friday to Sunday.

Henrietta handed over the business card to the father and explained eloquently all that she was told to tell the parents,the dad was happy but wondered whether he will be lacky this time.

Monday early in the morning after taking white porridge for breakfast,Henrietta left for school.She was eight years and was in Primary, in one of the best schools in the country.

She was an early bird,when she arrived in cla.s.s,as usual she went to the back of the cla.s.s where she always sat by her self,due to her family background,most students didn't want to be a.s.sociated with her,she was used to this and had no company at school at all.Her performance was average ,she never partic.i.p.ated in any extra curriculum activities because anytime she joined they were told to add some materials for the activities of which burdened the family.

During break time Henrietta went to her favourite tree and sat down.The school head boy who was in his final year,had noticed that Henrietta always sat under that tree every single school day when all her peers were busy playing and having fun,he thought the girl was absolutely abnormal.Jeremy ," Stand up and go play with your friends." Henrietta. "I have no friends in this school."Jeremy was shocked to learn that,she was avoiding people so that she will not experience discrimination over and over again.

Jeremy was disturbed with what he learnt that day from Henrietta.That whole week Henrietta was the happiest girl,she was lucky to collect a well balanced diet each evening from the dumping pit,she wondered who on earth didn't like that kind of food and kept throwing it while it was still hot.She was sure it was one of those spoilt brats who received food from home,three times a day ,morning,tea bread and lunch.The food was always finger licking."G.o.d please protect this spoilt brat who keeps throwing food and is unknowingly feeding me and my family."Henrietta said a short prayer.

Jeremy kept an eye on Henrietta,that very Monday, after evening cla.s.ses he wanted to talk to her,to learn on how to avoid negative comments from people,without avoiding them,when he arrived in cla.s.s 4 red,she was nowhere to be found,on his way to the parking lot he saw her walking so fast to the dumping pit,he followed her and was flabbergasted to see her picking food remains,he wanted to confront her but he changed his mind the last minute.He went back to cla.s.s four Red and waited for her,when she came almost all students had left for home,she noticed Jeremy leaning on the cla.s.s room door,she immediately threw the food in her hand into a cla.s.s room dust pin and pretended to have collected the remains and was putting them in the bin.Jeremy tried to find out what she had thrown in the pit but Henrietta maintained it was rubbish she had collected on her way to cla.s.s.

Jeremy." Henrietta what time are you going home,can we drop you,or someone will be picking you." Henrietta. . "senior, thank you,I stay near the school,so no need,more so my parents forbid me from accepting lifts from anyone.Henrietta went back to her cla.s.s sat down and when she was sure Jeremy had left ,she went back to the bin ,took out the food and left for home.The following day is when she,started collecting well packed delicious,finger licking food.

Rose was home earlier that Monday and she accompanied the husband,to the hotel with the card .When they arrived they were given least paying jobs because they had no any qualifications,Rose was put in a cleaning department,while Anderson was sent to garbage collection department and they started working right away.

Henrietta was overjoyed when she heard that her parents were both recruited."Mum,is there need for me to come with food remains from school every day?"Henrietta asked."If your friend is still generous,instead of her throwing away the food, just take it,even though we are working now,will receive money end of the month.Don't forget to thank the girl she has a gold heart." Said Rose.

Henrietta's mum was not aware the food they always enjoyed came from the dumping pit.According to her,she always knew,Lydia ,Henrietta's cla.s.smate and a good friend was the one who gave them the food due to her understanding of the hards.h.i.+p,the family was facing .She planned to go and thank Lydia's family once things eased on her side.

Jeremy had sat for his primary final year exam and was number one in the whole country,the family planned to hold a thanksgiving party,Though Jeremy was 2 years younger than his cla.s.s mates he always excelled in almost every school activity,the parents had already enrolled him for a high school final year exams of which he had to sit for the exams in a weeks time after the party.

Crack hotel was given the tender to prepare and serve delicacies in upcoming party,all big business individuals were invited,J.M limited was the leading business enterprise in the country.Mr.Thomson was the CEO of J.M Company just like his son Jeremy,he was also rumoured to have been a genius during his schooling time.

All the staff of Crack hotel who were chosen to render services to Mr Thomson's family,were reminded over and over again the importance and magnitude of the job they were to do.Rose and Anderson were among those chosen to go,unfortunately they could not leave behind Henrietta to spend a night alone in the house,all of there relatives were in the village which was several miles away from the city where Henrietta and her family were staying.

After contemplating for a while,Henrietta suggested to accompany the parents to the party and she was to stay in the Company van until the party was over.The following day the dad went to the van's driver,after explaining to him there ,dilemma and suggestion he agreed to let the little girl accompany them but she was to hide in track containing food,so that the rest of the staff won't notice her.

Finally the long antic.i.p.ated day was here,Henrietta was dressed in her very best,green dress,the parents put on there working uniforms.They were the first people to arrive in the hotel car park,as arranged Henrietta was stuffed in a corner in the track containing already packed with items which were to be used for the party.At 8:00am all the staff a.s.sembled in the waiting bay,they were given the final instructions and later they boarded the van and left for Mr.Thomson residence.

Henrietta was very uncomfortable,it took them 30minutes to arrive at the one and only famous villa in the entire country.Since she was in a poor position,she was not able feed her eyes with spectacular things along there way to the villa.All people got out of the van and they pa.s.sed through a security check,thrice before finally entering the main villa.The van and the track were packed at the parking lot,while all the staff headed to the place where they were going to use in preparing for food and all the decorations needed for the party,Henrietta was discreetly helped by the van driver to board the van.From there she was able to see people busy as bees doing various activities to make the day a success.
