Chapter 219 - "Boss, did you drink?" (2)
After she had toasted everybody else, she turned to Feng Zeyu. “Thank you so much for the other time. I can’t image the danger that my children and I would face had you not been there for us. I have never had a chance to think you formally so I will toast to you today.”
“It was you…” Feng Zeyu wanted to say that it was her who saved Duoduo first but Shu Yan didn’t give him the chance to finish what he was saying before she clanked her gla.s.s against him and downed the fluid inside.
Lao Hu, sitting next to them, clapped his hands, “Good one, Boss Shu.”
When Shu Yan toasted to Feng Zeyu, Lin Hui finally figured out what she had invited him over. So he had saved her and her children in the past.
All the dishes on the table were the few women’s best dishes and everyone thoroughly enjoyed them.
After everybody have had some to eat and some to drink and were all feeling a little bit ditzy, Lao Hu put his hand on Feng Zeyu’s shoulder and said, “Bro, I have heard of your story in the past. That was so unjust for you. I can’t believe you’d still help others even after that. You are a real life hero.” Lao Hu gave him a thumbs up.
Hu Ruiyang, Hu Ruixue, and the Lao’s couple did not know Feng Zeyu but Zhang Huafeng, Wu Xiuyue, and the boss and boss lady of the motel had heard of Feng Zeyu in the past, though it was the first time that they have met him in person. They were baffled when they first saw him being there then felt their questions had been answered when they heard that he had saved Shu Yan and her two children. When they heard Lao Hu’s words, they were baffled all over again.
“You guys have no idea. Back in the days… Brother Feng saved that young woman but she, worried about the revenge, turn around and said that Brother Feng tried to molest her and that was why her cla.s.smates and him had got into a fight. And that guy who was. .h.i.t by the car? It was his friend who pushed him but they blamed it on Brother Feng anyway.” Lao Hu sighed. “The young girl and her family moved away after what had happened to Brother Feng. Then it was impossible to clear his name.”
“So that was what really happened? But…” Wu Xiuyue was going to say that she had heard from her friend’s neighbor that the story was shared by his own mother. But now that Feng Zeyu was sitting right there, she couldn’t possibly say it out loud.
“Yes, that was what really happened. Many people knew that Brother Feng was innocent back then but that happened so many years ago, who’d still remember? And, at most it was us in this town and the next who knew the truth. Why is it that the entire west district knew about it?” Lao Hu paused here intentionally.
“Why is it?” Sure enough, Wu Xiuyue and the others asked.
“All thanks to his stepmother. His stepmother worried that Brother Feng would return to fight over the house so she purposefully ruined his reputation in public.” Lao Hu pursed his lips, obviously having a lot of contempt for Feng Zeyu’s parents.
“Tsk. What kind of parents are them?” said Ye Shuqin as she gave Feng Zeyu a sympathetic look.
That was his stepmother but his birth father. How could his birth father let that happen? To just sit there and watch when the stepmother did that to his son?
“There are lots of parents who love unconditionally but also a lot who are very selfish or play favoritism.” Shu Yan took a sip of the soup, calm the alcohol a little, then smiled bitterly and said, “When my ex-husband was cheating on me while I was pregnant, my entire family knew about it but they hide it from me. When I found out about it and wanted to confront him, my own parents were the first who tried to stop me. All because my ex-husband is rich and would give them money on a regular basis. Had I not come to City Nan this time, I’m sure they would have turned around and sold me to someone else for more money, after they have taken away every penny that I have.”
