Chapter 252 - "What is it that you want to do?" (1)
Yingying’s parents were charging at her angrily and Shu Yan almost took a step back from their aggressiveness. But she reminded her the last minute that she must not let her weakness show. Standing straight up with a cool face, she asked coldly, “What are you and what are you doing in front of my shop?”
The two aggressive people were surprised by Shu Yan and, with that pause, were no longer as aggressive as they were before.
“You are the boss of our girl, right? We appreciate that you have been taking care of her but we are here for personal reasons today,” said Mother Yingying with a smile to Shu Yan.
Shu Yan lifted up her arm, took a look at her watch, and said jokingly, “It’s almost 9 AM and she needs to start working. Can this wait till after her work day is over? By the way it looks I thought you were here to cause trouble and almost called the cops on you.”
“No, no, of course not. We are certainly not here to cause trouble. She has two days of vacation time each month, right? Why don’t we consider her taking today off?” said Mother Yingying with a smile.
Shu Yan frowned. “I need notification ahead of time if she wishes to take a day off. I am not going to be around today and I can’t possibly only have one person watching the shop. What is so urgent that can’t wait till after work today?”
Yingying’s parents exchanged a look. They didn’t believe that Shu Yan knew nothing about what was going on. Yingying didn’t go home last night and came with her this morning. Obviously, she had spent the night over at Shu Yan’s place. How was it possible that Shu Yan didn’t ask her anything?
“Boss. She can quit though, right? We don’t even ask for her pay for the time that she had worked. She won’t be coming in anymore.” A man with a crutch came walking over slowly and his tone was arrogant.
Shu Yan looked him up and down and he looked to be in his forties, his hair was scarce and his skin dark. Most importantly, his eyeb.a.l.l.s were rolling around in his sockets, making him looked particularly like a sleazebag. It was certainly true that Yingying’s parents didn’t care about what was going to happen to her as long as they could get their money.
“Who are you? Yingying is an adult. She signed a contract to work here. Why are you to make decisions for her?”
“My name is Li Weiguo, Yingying’s fiancé. I’d say that gives me the right to speak for her.” Li Weiguo threw around his ident.i.ty as Yingying’s husband.
“Bull! I never said I will marry you. Since when did you become my fiancé?” Yingying was very emotional.
The man’s mouth cracked open and his yellowish teeth could be seen. “Your parents had already taken my betrothal gift. It had already been agreed upon. Wife, hurry up and follow me home. You won’t need to work anymore. From now on, you only need to stay home and take care of the children.”
“What era do you think we are in right now? There is no such thing as your parents and the matchmakers’ words anymore. Her parents are the ones who have taken your money so you should go talk to them. Our Yingying is not going to marry you,” said Zhang Huaxiu as she pulled Yingying to one side.
“It doesn’t matter what era we are in, her parents still birthed and raised her. All children must listen to their parents. We have birthed and raised her, of course we have her best interest in mind,” said Mother Yingying as she walked up and try to grab Yingying.
Shu Yan took a step back while holding onto Yingying. “I don’t suggest you touch her. Or I will call the cops.”
Mother Yingying paused for a little but Li Weiguo wasn’t intimidated. “Sure, call the cops. We have done nothing wrong. The cops will not interest with our private matters.”
Yingying’s parents were not worried anymore.
“Exactly. We didn’t break any of the law. The cops can’t just arrest us. This is our private matters. What right do you have to get involved in it? We are foregoing the pay that you owe her. Yingying, coming home with me.” Mother Yingying reached out for Yingying again.
Shu Yan turned and looked at the shuddering Yingying. “This is your matters after all. How do you want to proceed?”
Her parents, after all, did not cause any damage to her shop and, as an outsider, Shu Yan could not possibly make that decision for Yingying. In the end of the day, Yingying would have to make her own decision.
