Chapter 333 - "Third Uncle, I have a favor to ask." (3)
“I’ll take it.” Zhang Huaxiu came over and picked up the phone. “Hi, who is this?”
“Hi, I am Shu Jianyang, Shu Yan’s cousin. She had turned this shop over?”
“Oh, you are Yanyan’s cousin? No, she had me help her manage this shop and hasn’t been in in a while. She might be home. Have you tried her at home?” Zhang Huaxiu was aware that Shu Yan had a cousin that she was close to.
“Yes, I just tried her home. They said she was out.”
“Oh, maybe she went over to the office then. Let me give you the number to her office. Just call her there.” Zhang Huaxiu gave Shu Jianyang the number.
Shu Jianyang looked at the cop next to him innocently, “They said she’s at her office.”
“Boy, this cousin of yours is quite somebody – she has a housemaid at home, opened up a shop with someone else, and has her own company.” Even the cop felt that it was very surreal.
Shu Jianyang was speechless as well. Shu Yan had never mentioned that she was starting her own company. When did it all happen?
“h.e.l.lo? Who is it?”
Shu Jianyang let out a sigh of relief. He was finally able to locate the one that he was looking for. “It’s me, Shu Jianyang.”
“Third Bother? Something going on with my mom? What did the doctor say? Is anything wrong with her? If there are issues then have them head to capital city. I will split the money with my three brothers. If you cover for me first, I will deposit the money into your account directly,” said Shu Yan immediately when she found out that it was Shu Jianyang on the phone.
“No, it’s not about that. I am at the police station right now.”
“Police station? What happened?” asked Shu Yan, somewhat worried.
The cop took the phone from Shu Jianyang and asked, “Hi, is this Madam Shu Yan?”
“Yes, this is she. And you are?” Shu Yan was more cautious with the way she talked now.
“I am a cop at the City Xi police station. We received a report earlier today that Shu Jianyang had murdered his cousin Shu Yan for her money. As such, we need to confirm that you are Shu Yan, Shu Jianyang’s cousin?”
“Who made that report? I am very much alive and kicking. Are they crazy?” Shu Yan gave it a little bit of thought and asked immediately, “Was it my parents? Have they lost their minds? There really isn’t anything they won’t do just to get me to go back.”
“Are you sure you are Shu Yan?” asked the cop again.
“Of course I am. I registered with the police station after I have sold my houses way back when. Then I left City Xi for City Nan bringing my kids with me. I have switched over my household register after I have bought my house. You can contact City Nan’s police station directly and talk to them. I do have a favor to ask. I do not wish my parents to find out about my whereabouts. I am finally able to live my life peacefully and do not wish to move for them again.” Shu Yan was almost pleading with them toward the end.
“That is your personal business and does not fall under our jurisdiction. We will need your parents to talk to you real quick just to confirm your ident.i.ty though.”
“Sure,” said Shu Yan as she sat up straight, getting ready for the battle that was about to begin.
“h.e.l.lo? Is this Yanyan? Yanayan, it’s Mom. Where have you been, brat? You didn’t even tell us when you get a divorce. You just leave with the children without a word. Do you know how worried we are about you? Mom is sick and I don’t know how much more time I have. And you won’t even come and visit me?” Lin Zixiang sounded very sad. Had it not been what Shu Jianyang had already told them as well as Shu Yan’s pleading earlier, they would for sure felt that Shu Yan was a very unfamilial person.
“Oh, stop with the acting already.” Shu Yan’s cold voice came through the phone. “I am 26 now, not 6. I could have died outside and you wouldn’t even bat an eye. What you are really thinking about was the money that I got from Ye Zhiqiang, am I right? I wasn’t going to contact you but since you have gotten hold of me the way that you did, then let me get something clear. The Shu Yan from before died when Ye Zhiqiang scolded her, hit her, and forced her to get a divorce. This Shu Yan right now is a reborn one. Since my parents like the boys and not me, then I don’t want you either. But, don’t worry. You did give birth to me and raised me so whatever the three of them give you in the future, I will give the same amount, including when you are sick. If you are sick, then go and get yourself treated. I will split the cost with them evenly. What more can you ask from a daughter, right?”
“Yanyan, what are you talking about? Mom doesn’t understand. When do I not like you? I only have two daughters, you and Lili, and you are the younger one of the two of you. How could I not dote on you? I know that you blame me about picking Ye Zhiqiang for you but he was a nice guy before and he is quite successful. I can’t help it that he cheated on you. What do you mean by supporting me? Your brothers will be taking care of me when I grow old! Mom just wants to see you one last time before she goes.”
“As I have said, stop with your acting already. What is the point of you acting in front of the cops? Or that you are planning on suing me? First of all, you are not at the point that you need to be supported by others. Secondly, there are three brothers at home so it wouldn’t make sense for me to take up on that all by myself. Thirdly, if you want to go the judicial route, that is fine by me as well. We will take this to court. We will split the family’s a.s.set evenly then I will support the two of you evenly when you grow old. If I recall correctly, you have built three houses for all three of your sons, right? Where did that money come from? You don’t think one of those will be given to me instead?”
