Chapter 425
Usually, there was no need for women to do much during the Yuan Day celebration, but this year, the Emperor had the intention to host the event on a grand scale. Hence, even the royal women of the palace had to get up early and go through their c.u.mbersomely lengthy etiquette to join the event.
Mu Mingtang was wearing a heavy dress which caused her back to be sore. After the congratulatory ceremony was finally over, she immediately found a seat to rest as soon as she was able to move freely.
If she decided to trust Xie Xuanchen’s words again in the future, she would henceforth identify as an idiot!
Mu Mingtang didn’t have the energy to deal with anything else today, so she deliberately avoided the crowd. Unexpectedly, even though she hid herself far from conspicuous eyes, someone still managed to chase after her persistently.
Recently, Jiang Mingwei has been enjoying herself. After all, it seemed like she finally had an outlet to vent her pent-up anger that lasted a long time. For a full year and a half, Jiang Mingwei watched Mu Mingtang stand under the spotlight and showed off her might. She watched Xie Xuanchen spend a lot of money on her and witnessed the Emperor and Empress following her all the time. She was even constantly reminded not to pick a fight with Mu Mingtang and to be tolerant yet forgiving.
Everyone told her that Xie Xuanchen would not live long and Jiang Mingwei just had to be patient. Therefore, she endured persistently but in the end, Mu Mingtang still spent as much money as she wanted whereas Jiang Mingwei still had to swallow her anger and remain submissive. In fact, even Xie Xuanji didn’t seem to be advancing in the ranks then.
Everyone in the world heard the rumour that Xie Xuanchen was going to die, but apparently, the Prince was holding on to what sliver of life he has left. Surviving a relapse of poison and after half a year of martial arts practice to recover, his body was in almost the same state as when he was in his prime.
He made no secret of his concern for Mu Mingtang and wished to announce to the world that she was his only importance— anyone who harmed a hair of hers was worthy of the most painful death imaginable.
Jiang Mingwei once felt that the tragedies of her previous life were repeating its course and she couldn’t see the end of the road ahead. However, recently, all of her hards.h.i.+ps have been rewarding— Xie Xuanji was finally being used by the emperor, so Jiang Mingwei immediately came to Mu Mingtang to show off as soon as she stood up.
She wanted to flaunt and show Mu Mingtang that Xie Xuanji was now being heavily relied on by the Emperor and there were many people who frequented Prince Jin’s Mansion every day to suck up to him. Jiang Mingwei seemed to use this ideology to convince herself that her choice was correct. She believed that her husband was the man that the G.o.ds have blessed to fulfil an important destiny.
Sitting in a secluded place to rest, Mu Mingtang sighed annoyedly when she saw Jiang Mingwei coming towards her from afar.
It was really annoying seeing how Jiang Mingwei couldn’t ever stop talking.
Jiang Mingwei stopped beside Mu Mingtang and deliberately asked, “Sister-in-law, is there anyone sitting here?”
Mu Mingtang secretly rolled her eyes but said, “No.”
Jiang Mingwei sat down as she wished. After she sat down, the sharp-eyed court lady immediately stepped forward to change a batch of tea for Jiang Mingwei. Princess Jin lifted the lid of the tea and took a sip before she turned around and smiled at Mu Mingtang apologetically, “It seems that I might have offended my sister-in-law. This humble one is used to drinking fresh Maojian, so other tea leaves are not allowed to be imported as I do not enjoy their taste.”
