Ronnie then turned towards the head butler standing on his left side to serve him breakfast, "My wife is asleep. Ask Sarah to stay by my wife's side and serve her something to eat after she wakes up. Convey my apologies for not waiting for her to wake up and have breakfast with her."
Butler, "...."
Daniel West, "....."
Both the Butler and Daniel West looked at their boss with astonishment, their eyes were about to pop out of its sockets, 'My wife? Apologies?' Oh My G.o.d! Did I hear him right?'
'From when Madam is home, I'm getting to see another side of Sir which I've never seen since his childhood.' In the end, the butler could only reply with, "Sure sir!" He could feel his skin burning up with embarra.s.sment.
Ronnie turned towards Daniel West. So he'd to immediately regain his composure.
Ronnie began speaking, "Also Dan, Jayne won't be going to the University today. We'll drop by tomorrow. You can inform the Princ.i.p.al that she's ill and won't be coming today."
"Unwell? Sir is everything alright? Should I call Dr Henry Thomas?" Daniel West asked with urgency in his voice.
"It's nothing. She's just a little tired." Ronnie answered.
'Tired? Boss, what are you telling? Who's tired? But your hickey says something else sir!' Daniel West thought to himself but he too replied with just a 'Oh! Okay boss!"
-------
The first thing on Ronnie's schedule was to meet the Prime minister. Hence, Daniel West drove him to the Prime Minister's office.
"Good morning sir!" Ronnie greeted the Prime Minister on entering his office.
The Prime minister got up from his seat to wish Ronnie, "Good morning my boy! Wish you a very happy married life! You are invited to a dinner party tonight with your wife at my residence." He was very close to Ronnie to such an extent that he treated him like his own son.
"Thank you so much sir! We'll be there." Ronnie accepted politely.
"So, how's married life my boy?-" Before he could ask more, Ronnie's hickey caught his eyes too! He paused, smirked and continued. "I'm sure it must be great!" The Prime Minister winked at Ronnie and began teasing him.
Ronnie still didn't know that the hickey on his upper neck was the culprit all this while that the Prime Minister himself had to pull Ronnie's leg.
He spoke to him for a while longer relating to work and got back to his office. It was a long time since he came to his office. The first thing he did was, to call up home.
The landline at Ronnie's home began ringing.
Tring! Tring! Tring!
The head butler received the call, "h.e.l.lo!"
"Has my wife woken up yet?" The butler heard his master's authoritative voice on the other end.
'My wife again! Better get used to this you butler.' The butler chided himself inwardly.
"Not yet sir! Sarah is right next to her bed waiting for her to wake up." The butler answered him.
"Okay, let me know once she is awake. Make sure she eats something. Ask her to call back." Ronnie instructed the butler and hung up.
Ronnie got immersed in his work. But he kept glancing at his watch always. He was anxiously waiting for Jayne to call back. The waiting seemed like forever though it was hardly forty minutes since Ronnie had called home.
Just then his phone rang…
Tring!
Ronnie received right on the first ring.
"h.e.l.lo!" He gushed over the phone.
"Sir, there's a change in your schedule. You have a meeting with the Army Chief in the afternoon for lunch." His secretary Anne Murray said over the phone.
"Got it!" he hung up instantly.
Ronnie's mood was exactly like the gloomy weather outside which was smothered with fog. 'Jayne, I'm sorry! Call back soon!' He pleaded inwardly.
Just then the phone rang again. He picked up the phone lazily.
"h.e.l.lo?"
Just then a feathery, honeyed voice answered him, "h.e.l.lo?" which directly warmed Ronnie's heart. He felt his mood lift up instantly and the warmth surge from his heart all through his body with just a 'h.e.l.lo' from his love.
"It's barely hours since we've been apart. I'm already missing you honey!" Ronnie felt himself caressing the receiver of the telephone.
